New Service: Custom Decorative Crosswalks

We know you can't always roll out a red carpet for your patrons, visitors, and residents, but a custom preformed thermoplastic crosswalk can feel just as special. Big Apple Services has now installed several of these beautiful crosswalks, which can be found in Brookhaven, McDonough, and Lawrenceville. We are loving this trend and are excited to continue expanding these custom services.

Why install a custom performed crosswalk?

Preformed thermoplastic (or "preform") can be designed and molded into unique shapes and designs, making it the ideal product for custom work. You've probably seen preform in action already, as it is commonly used in standard ladder-style crosswalks, stop bars, and symbols such as arrows, bike riders, and pedestrian crossing icons. We assemble the design like a giant puzzle and apply the material to the road surface with a heat wand. This process enables the material to cure quickly, allowing us to reopen areas to traffic as we work. Most importantly, because it’s available in a wide range of colors and sizes, it’s the ideal material to bring your custom crosswalk vision to life.

Brookhaven

For our project in Brookhaven, we installed four crosswalks designed by Atlanta-based artist Turiya Clark, which consisted of 450+ custom-designed shapes. These vibrant nature scenes bring a pop of color and add a fun, creative element to an otherwise ordinary roundabout.

Gas South District, Lawrenceville

We also just completed the installation of quilt design crosswalks in the Gas South District in Lawrenceville. These are the first of their kind in Gwinnett County and were designed by Alexandra Sorto (Artazandra, LLC). We love the one-of-a-kind artistry and creative vibe these crosswalks add.

McDonough

In McDonough, we recently installed a series of crosswalks adorned with vibrant geranium designs to warmly welcome both visitors and residents. Geraniums are often seen as symbols of friendship and protection, and that sentiment feels right at home here!

For all of our preform work, we collaborate with Geveko Markings to choose colors and make sure the work of these talented artists is recreated as faithfully as possible.
