Transforming Crosswalks for the World Cup
Our Big Apple Services team is proud to have been a part of the Atlanta city-wide transformation in preparation for hosting some of the biggest World Cup Matches earlier this summer! Our work included installing colorful crosswalks around the areas of Centennial Olympic Park and around Mercedes Benz Stadium, including images of the iconic Georgia peach and the state flower, the Sweetbay Magnolia.

Working nights on a very tight deadline, our crews installed 8 intersections for a total of 32 custom preformed thermoplastic crosswalks in an all-out sprint. Thanks to our dedicated teams, the work was completed with less than one month between approval and the pre-event deadline!
We could not have accomplished this without the dedicated support of our supplier, Danish company Geveko Markings. They're the inventors of preformed thermoplastic and luckily produce it at a plant in Gainesville, GA. It wasn't just a stateside effort: both the US and European teams worked around the clock to get the colors and designs just right, produce and cut them into 2'x3' pieces, number them, box them, label them, and deliver them straight to the crew.

After removing the old crosswalks through hydroblasting, our crews assembled the “giant puzzles”, laid each piece out for approval, and then applied the preformed thermoplastic with high heat. Although the process may sound simple, it requires an immense amount of skill and attention to detail. Not all of the colors accept the heat the same way, making some colors way easier to apply than others. An untrained hand could easily burn part of the design. H3B Traffic Control provided TCPs for permit approval and kept our crews safe inside the overnight road closures.
